Quick full check

Headphones Test

This page gives you a short general-purpose headphone check that covers the most common questions first: do both channels work, does the stereo image center correctly, is bass present, and can the drivers still reproduce a gentle high tone without obvious problems? It is useful for new headphones, recently repaired devices, Bluetooth earbuds after pairing, or any setup that suddenly sounds wrong. The test does not autoplay. You trigger each step yourself and can stop the sound at any time.

Step 1: Left channel

Play a short tone that should appear only in the left ear cup. If it sounds centered, channel routing may be wrong.

If all sounds played correctly, your headphones basic functions seem fine.

What results mean

If left and right both play in the correct ear, your basic channel routing is probably fine. A centered stereo tone usually means the channel balance is close enough for everyday listening. If bass is missing, the cause may be weak driver output, a poor seal with earbuds, or device EQ settings. If the high tone is missing, keep in mind that some listeners, especially adults, naturally hear less at the top of the range.

Safety note

This is a convenience tool, not a stress test. There is no benefit in running it loudly. Low listening levels are enough to confirm channel routing, bass presence and basic treble output. If a tone sounds uncomfortable, stop immediately and lower the volume before continuing.

FAQ

How can I test my headphones online?

Use this page as a first pass. It walks through the most important checks before you move to a more specific tool.

What if the left and right sides are swapped?

Check system audio settings, adapter wiring and Bluetooth balance settings, then confirm the result again with the Left / Right Audio Test.

Why is the bass step hard to hear?

Very low tones are naturally harder to reproduce and easier to lose with a poor earbud seal. Try the Bass Test for more detail.

Can I use speakers instead of headphones?

Yes. The quick check still works for speakers, although room acoustics may affect the bass and stereo impression.
